Abstract

The existence of Brunei folk literature is very much related to the existence of other folk literatures in the archipelago. Brunei Darussalam is multi-ethnics nation which comprises to Brunei Malay, Kedayan, Belait, Tutong, Dusun and Besar. These ethnics recorded various oral traditions whether in prosaic or poetry forms in their own dialects or languages. As it is small country in term of size and being situated in the centre of the archipelago it is unevadedly being influenced by the neighbouring countries. Ancient historical and cultural impact with distant nations also influenced the folk literature of Brunei. With the awareness that these folk literatures might extinct, efforts were made to collect these precious arts so that they can be read by the later generations. This Bunga Rampai Sastera Rakyat Brunei (A collection of Brunei Folk Literature) is pioneer towards this goal. This precious heritage could be of beneficial to be shared with other nations.
