ASEAN Competitiveness Report 2010

Author:Marn-Heong Wong, Rakhi Shankar, and Ruby Toh

Abstract

The ASEAN Competitiveness Report highlights the challenging position that ASEAN finds itself in in 2011. Following the traumatic experience of the Asian financial crisis, the region is now faced with a large and increasingly powerful Chinese economy in the North and a huge Indian economy in the West also making rapid progress. ASEAN has stabilized its position and proven to be quite resilient in the face of the recent global crisis, despite its high dependency on exports. But the region will ultimately need to define its role and competitive strengths at the crossroads of these two emerging economic giants. The Report explores how regional collaboration across the heterogeneous set of ASEAN members can help individual countries to address these challenges.
