ASEAN Guidelines on Product Safety Labelling

Author:ASEAN Secretariat

Abstract

Product safety labelling plays a critical role in protecting consumers by providing essential information about safe product use, handling, and disposal. It minimises risks associated with misuse, promotes informed decision-making, and fosters consumer trust in safety and quality. Labelling is used where hazards cannot be designed out of products: it is an important risk mitigation measure. It may include warnings, instructions, constituent parts, and other critical details to prevent misuse and potential hazards. Effective product safety labelling is integral to preventing incidents and ensuring products are used as intended.

Labelling should ensure consumers have easy access to accurate and relevant information in a way that they can easily understand. This helps prevent incidents and health issues caused by improper use or exposure to harmful substances.
