The creation of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (AIPR) is another major step taken by the ASEAN Leaders toward strengthening the region's commitment to peace. It is hoped that through the institution, ASEAN will be able to create a knowledge-based of valuable data on lessons learned and best practices in peace processes, mediation and resolution efforts with which the Association could put to good use in addressing the peace and security challenges of the region.
