Since the last edition of the Guidebook in 2004, the ASEAN investment environment has undergone a number of profound and fundamental changes. ASEAN strengthened steps towards regional integration by accelerating the goal of the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to 2015. The AEC will establish ASEAN as a single market and production base, comprising the five core elements of the free flow of goods, services, investment, freer flow of capital and free flow of skilled labour. In this context, an AEC Blueprint for advancing the AEC with clear targets and timelines for the implementation of various measures was put in place in 2007.
