The phenomenal growth in numbers and variety of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is one of the significant developments of international relations today. The variety of NGO objectives – and therefore of NGOs themselves – is quite bewildering. There are some 20 types as an attempt to summarize the extensive scope of NGOs. These organizations range from political and economic to professional and technical to those concerned with sports and recreation.
