The ASEAN Ministers for Science and Technology have endorsed the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science and Technology 2007-2011 on 27 March 2007. The Plan of Action sets out a number of strategic thrusts and actions, with particular focus on the development of policy and mechanisms to support active cooperation in research and technology development to be undertaken at the regional and national levels. It includes mechanisms to promote and establish effective networking arrangements among S&T centers of excellence in ASEAN.

The plan of action also provides strategies on how technologies can be made more accessible to various communities in ASEAN thereby ensuring that S&T activities to be undertaken over the next four years remain effective and responsive to the various ASEAN challenges. Most importantly, they will contribute to ASEAN’s community-building goals.
