Abstract

This book is a compilation of articles presented at the seminar on „Inter-cultural Dialogue for a New Global Equilibrium: Constraints and Possibilities”, organized by the Center for Languages and Cultures (CLC) of the State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta in collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Jakarta in October 2003. The event derived from the initiative of various parties who acknowledge the need to build dialogue among nations, religions and cultures. This book offers various perspectives on how the world should deal with the emergence of conflicts and wars which have in many ways increased the current global tension. “Dialogue in the World Disorder” recommends the development of mutual understanding among people with various opinions, different state policies and national attitudes. The book reflects the escalating fears as well as hopes for people who want peace. The issues raised in this publication concern the need to discuss certain mechanisms that all nations must follow in order to promote equilibrium to preserve a peaceful and just world. The arguments presented by the authors are varied, ranging from theo-philosophical approaches to socio-political and cultural ones. Each attempts to develop a common perspective on how to understand the issues, and suggests strategies to prevent further destruction and disorder.
