The information presented in the book was mainly obtained from the country reports prepared by nine ASEAN member countries, i.e. Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Laos is not included in this profile because it is a landlocked country. Many other sources of information were also used to enrich the profile. The book provides basic information, comparative analyses of information, coastal resource assessment and problems emerged from coastal resource utilization as well as the changing trend of the whole marine territory of the nine ASEAN countries. The profile also articulates on the basic physical and biological resources in the coastal areas, environment degradation and pollution problems, social and economic conditions, laws, and management systems.
