In general, trade officials do not view the ISO 14000 series in the same light as standards officials. Likewise, standards official may not understand the trade implications of their work. Environmental regulators and the industry may generally also have limited understanding of this subject. It was therefore the objective of the seminar on ISO 14000, ecolabelling and life-cycle analysis, to bring trade officials, environment regulator, standards officials and industry representatives of the ASEAN countries together and to inform them developments at the ISO and WTO so as to raise their awareness of the trade implications of the ISO 14000 series of standards.
