BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 5 December 2018 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, hosted a project proposal development training for government officials and representatives from local universities at the International Convention Centre Berakas, on 4-5 December.
The training aimed to enhance the capacity of participants in developing quality regional project proposals using the ASEAN cooperation framework.
Emaleen Abd Rahman Teo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, emphasised in her opening remarks on the complementarities between Brunei Darussalam’s national agenda as outlined in Wawasan 2035 and ASEAN’s broader goals as outlined in the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the Masterplan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025. She encouraged all participants to make full use of the training so that Brunei Darussalam can maximise the opportunities and resources available through ASEAN programmes and projects and contribute to regional efforts in maintaining peace, stability and economic prosperity.
A total of 78 officials from various line ministries and universities participated and completed the two-day training. Participants appreciated the inter-active process and facilitation from the ASEAN Secretariat that enriched their learning experience. The information presented was found informative and helpful for participants in understanding how to develop ASEAN Cooperation Projects. During the discussion, the facilitators reiterated Brunei Darussalam’s eligibility in seeking funding for their initiatives through the ASEAN Cooperation Project. Proponents were also given the opportunity to develop project concept notes with technical assistance from the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN-ROK Project Management Team, who also attended the Training to promote the ASEAN Korea Cooperation Fund.
The training was funded by the ASEAN Development Fund (ADF) which aimed to address the lack of awareness among potential proponents in AMS, particularly on the available resources and how to access it. These efforts also aim at increasing the number of ASEAN initiated projects and the better utilisation of available ASEAN Trust and Project Funds.
