The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined ASEAN on 7 January 1984, followed by Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.
ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat
ASEAN shall develop friendly relations and mutually beneficial dialogues, cooperation and partnerships with countries and sub-regional, regional and international organisations and institutions. This includes external partners, ASEAN entities, human rights bodies, non-ASEAN Member States Ambassadors to ASEAN, ASEAN committees in third countries and international organisations, as well as international / regional organisations.
The rodmap for an ASEAN Community (2009-2015) was declared by the leaders in 2009. The ASEAN Community, anchored on three community pillars: Political-Security Community, Economic Community, Socio-Cultural Community was launched in 2015. The ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together was introduced in 2015 as a Post-2015 Vision. It comprises the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, the ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint 2025, the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint 2025 and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025

Since its establishment in 2013, the ASEAN Youth Organization (AYO) has actively promoted greater understanding and awareness of ASEAN, and has helped advance regional integration through youth development and engagement across the region. Its contribution in fostering cross-cultural collaborations among the ASEAN youth, and in facilitating youth participation through capacity development, social-change initiatives, regional awareness advocacy and community engagement have been instrumental in furthering the people- oriented and people-centered ASEAN Community.

It is a day that ignites a shared passion for exploration, urging us to unleash our inner wanderlust. Launched on ASEAN Day, August 8, 2023, #ImaginASEAN, supported by Agoda and AirAsia, emerged as a beacon for intra-ASEAN travel. It beckoned travellers to not simply visit one Southeast Asian nation but to venture forth and discover the diverse wonders that span across this vibrant region. As #ImaginASEAN aligns seamlessly to encourage deeper insights into each Southeast Asian country and kindle a spirit of adventure, unveiling the top 27 contenders on World Tourism Day feels like the perfect timing.
The ten Southeast Asian nations of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam are culturally rich countries teeming with extraordinary experiences for every traveller. Not only is travelling between these nations easily accessible, each country also offers a diverse array of activities for worldwide travellers and locals alike. #ImaginASEAN is designed to ignite the spirit of exploration and curiosity especially for Southeast Asian residents to take a journey through a diverse and enchanting region that is their own backyard. From serene beaches and thrilling surf spots to ancient temples, heritage, mouthwatering cuisine, and exhilarating hikes, Southeast Asia has all of these and more, thus making this region truly “A Destination for Every Dream.
The contest also collaborated with 10 influencers who were all based in one of the ASEAN Member States, in which they offered suggestions for tours and activities they love. Viewers could watch the influencer videos to gain inspiration while getting a personal virtual tour from the local content creators from their perspective.
To promote travel to and within the Southeast Asian region, #ImaginASEAN encouraged users to imagine themselves experiencing the region’s beautiful, diverse attractions. Participants earned entry points to the imaginASEAN contest by engaging in different activities, including answering survey questions and creating captivating Instagram Reels or TikTok-style videos showcasing their dream Southeast Asian experiences.
The contest was met with an overwhelming response, with nearly 2,500 participants from various corners of the globe. Through their creativity and enthusiasm, they painted vivid pictures of the experiences they longed to embrace.

Publish the video on your Instagram, TikTok, or submit it directly to the contest widget.
You can choose to include photographs in your video as a slideshow if that is more of your style. Make sure the content is original and the images used are royalty-free.
