JAKARTA, 25 April 2018 – Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, paid a courtesy visit to the ASEAN Secretariat. She was received by the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs, Dr AKP Mochtan.
Both sides welcomed the deepening of relationship between ASEAN and Hong Kong SAR, especially with the conclusion of the ASEAN-Hong Kong, China Free Trade Agreement (AHKFTA) and the ASEAN–Hong Kong, China Investment Agreement (AHKIA) in September last year, and expressed the hope that the Agreements will be ratified expeditiously in order for their entry in force by 1 January 2019.
The Chief Executive expressed interest in enhancing cooperation with ASEAN through trade, tourism, education and investment and also support for capacity building for ASEAN.
Dr AKP Mochtan briefed the Chief Executive on the achievements in community building in the last 50 years under the ASEAN political-security, economic and socio-cultural pillars. He also briefed on the roles and functions of the ASEAN Secretariat, focusing on its role in supporting the ASEAN Member States and the different ASEAN organs.
The Chief Executive also visited the ASEAN Gallery, which showcases paintings, sculptures, prints and indigenous artifacts from ASEAN Member States and around the world, and the Library section of the ASEAN Resource Centre.
