Dr. Hans Christian Hagman, Director, Office for Strategic Analysis of the Prime Minister’s Office of Sweden, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of ASEAN in the latter’s Office at the ASEAN Secretariat this week. Dr. Hans Christian Hagman was accompanied by H.E. Ms. Ewa Polano, Swedish Ambassador to ASEAN and four high ranking Swedish Diplomats.
On the occasion, Dr Surin warmly welcomed Dr. Hagman and his team to the ASEAN Secretariat and also congratulated him as the EU has won the Nobel Peace Prize 2012 as an organization which has contributed to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe for over six decades.
Dr. Surin also explained Dr. Hagman on the achievement and challenges ASEAN faces in maintaining the momentum of ASEAN Centrality, as well as the difficulties and efforts ASEAN made and the satisfactory outcomes.
Both Dr. Surin and Dr. Hagman exchanged views on positive ways forward for ASEAN community buildings and other wide range of issues of common concerned in the region ranging from democratic process, human rights, peace and reconciliation, South China Sea and Korean Peninsula, and new development in Myanmar.
