The delegation of the Canadian Forces College’s National Security Programme (NSP) headed by Brigadier General Hilton visited the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday. The delegation was welcomed by H.E. Mr. Nyan Lynn, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community. The visit was part of the efforts to enhance ASEAN-Canada relations and to raise ASEAN awareness in Canada, including ASEAN’s achievements and its increasingly important role in the region’s evolving architecture among Canadian policymakers.
During the briefing session, the delegation had an extensive exchange of views and discussion on various regional and global issues of common interests; namely developments in ASEAN, the role ASEAN plays in the evolving regional architecture, the overview of ASEAN Defence Ministerial Meeting (ADMM), as well as the ongoing cooperation between ASEAN and Canada in every sector of cooperation. The delegation also took an opportunity to have a photo session with the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN.
NSP participants are comprised of Colonels and naval Captains from the Canadian Forces, senior international officers, civilian executives from the National Defence, and other Canadian government departments.
ASEAN and Canada are currently celebrating the 35th Anniversary of their cooperation. To mark this important milestone in ASEAN-Canada partnership, both sides agreed to enhance high-level engagement, hold numerous cultural, academic, and commercial events.
