JAKARTA, 13 September 2016 – Fostering closer ties with ASEAN will be a priority for Denmark following the establishment of the ASEAN Community.
Recognising the immense potential for cooperation between ASEAN and Denmark, State Secretary for Foreign Policy of the Danish Foreign Ministry H.E. Ms. Lone Dencker Wisborg said her country followed the ASEAN Community building efforts with keen interest.
During her courtesy call on Secretary-General of ASEAN H.E. Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat today, State Secretary Wisborg conveyed that Denmark would push for closer partnership between ASEAN and the EU, particularly to elevate the partnership to a greater height.
Secretary-General Minh welcomed State Secretary Wisborg and her delegation to the ASEAN Secretariat and appreciated the commitment of Denmark’s continued support for ASEAN Community building process. He recalled his fruitful visit to Denmark in June 2015 for the launch of the First ASEAN Forum and meetings with high-ranking Danish officials to raise awareness about ASEAN in Denmark.
Further, Secretary-General Minh and State Secretary Wisborg exchanged views on the expected outcomes of the forthcoming 21st ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting to be held on 13-14 October 2016 in Thailand as well as on regional and international issues of common interest and concerns.
