H.E. San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASCC, on behalf of the Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, led the ASEAN Secretariat delegation and delivered opening remarks and statement at the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women (AMMW) on 29 November 2024 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The 5th AMMW Meeting was guided by the theme “Towards an Inclusive Society through Gender Mainstreaming and Women Empowerment”, and was preceded by the 23rd ACW and Related Meetings.

H.E. San Lwin emphasised ASEAN’s continued efforts in mainstreaming gender across the three ASEAN Community Pillars and in institutionalising a more programmatic and institutional approach on gender mainstreaming at the regional level. The Deputy Secretary-General encouraged the AMMW Ministers to provide strategic guidance on scaling up the cooperation on gender mainstreaming and women empowerment in the region, in view of ASEAN Vision 2045.
