BALI, 25 September 2024 – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (MoTCE) of Indonesia, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, hosted the ASEAN Project Development Training for all work units within the Ministry from 24-25 September in Bali, Indonesia.
Yulia, Director of Inter-Institutional Relations of MoTCE Indonesia, highlighted that despite the availability of resources/funds for ASEAN Cooperation Projects, the ministry faces challenges in tapping into those resources. These challenges included the lack of knowledge and access to information regarding the procedures for submitting project proposals and the limited capacity of work units to understand the regionality requirements of those funds.
These challenges hindered the ministry’s ability to optimise the utilisation of the available funds for ASEAN Cooperation Projects. Therefore, the training was conducted to enhance the knowledge and skills within the ministry, a crucial responsibility as one of the ASEAN National Tourism Organisation (NTOs) members in preparing ASEAN cooperation project proposals that can be submitted and considered as ASEAN regional projects. These remarks aligned well with participants’ expectations, which were expressed prior to the start of the training.
A total of 36 officials from various units in the ministry participated in the two-day training. The training, which included presentations, exercises, group works, and interactive discussions, provided comprehensive learning experience. Participants were trained by the technical experts from the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) to develop regional project proposals and manage ASEAN cooperation projects using a results-based management approach.
At the end of the training, participants developed and presented six regional project proposal drafts under the tourism sector on (1) Fostered Sustainable Development Across the ASEAN Tourism Destinations; (2) Optimised Implementation of ASEAN Protocol in Food Waste Management by Hotel and Restaurant in ASEAN Member States (AMS); (3) Increased the Facilities and Accessibilities for Disabilities Workers in ASEAN Tourism Sector; (4) Efficiency ASEAN Gastronomy Network and Region of Gastronomy; (5) Implementation of ASEAN MICE Toolboxes; and (6) Increased Capacity of Human Resources in Tourism Village in AMS.
Furthermore, ASEC encouraged participants to continue developing their proposal drafts and submitting them to ASEC for review and consideration.
The training concluded with awards presentation for the participants, during which the ministry expressed its gratitude to ASEC for the effective collaboration through the training.
