JAKARTA, 3 December 2014 – Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh congratulated H.E. Mr. Abdullah Hasan Salih for assuming his duty as Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to ASEAN yesterday. Secretary-General Minh encouraged Ambassador Salih to work closely with ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat to explore cooperation in areas such as energy security and agriculture. Secretary-General Minh also briefed Ambassador Salih on the recent developments in ASEAN, including the progress of the ASEAN Community building and integration efforts in the region.
Ambassador Salih committed to working closely with ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat to further strengthen and deepen cooperation between Iraq and ASEAN. He also briefed SG Minh on the current situation in Iraq and conveyed his Government’s appreciation to ASEAN for issuing the Foreign Ministers’ Statement on the Rise of Violence and Brutality Committed by Terrorist/Extremist Organization in Iraq and Syria in September 2014 and another statement on the same subject at the 9th East Asia Summit in November 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
SG Minh received the Letter of Credence from Ambassador Salih yesterday, marking the assumption of duty as his country’s Ambassador to ASEAN.
