JAKARTA, 11 March 2014 – H.E. Koichi Aiboshi, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN presented his letter of credentials to H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN, at the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday.
Secretary-General Minh congratulated Ambassador Aiboshi for his appointment as the new Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN and looked forward to working closely with Ambassador Aiboshi during his term of office in Jakarta.
Secretary-General Minh underscored that ASEAN and Japan would need to further strengthen their cooperation to implement the outcomes of the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit held in December 2013, particularly the Vision of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation and its Implementation Plan. He also conveyed ASEAN’s appreciation to Japan for establishing Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) 2.0, which amounts to USD 100 million, as the continuation of JAIF to support the implementation of ASEAN-Japan cooperation projects and realisation of the Vision of ASEAN-Japan Friendship.
In response, Ambassador Aiboshi expressed his desire to work closely with Secretary-General Minh to further strengthen ASEAN-Japan dialogue relations, particularly in following-up the outcomes of the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit in December 2013. Ambassador Aiboshi said that ASEAN is an integral part of Japan’s foreign policy and that Japan would continue to support ASEAN in achieving its integration by 2015.
Ambassador Aiboshi succeeded H.E. Kimihiro Ishikane whose service ended in January 2014. Ambassador Aiboshi is the third Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN.
