On 22 August, Mr. Souun Takeda, Japan’s Cultural Envoy for 2013 and a renowned Japanese calligrapher, presented a calligraphy art to H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, on behalf of ASEAN Secretariat, at the residence of Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, H.E. Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane. The word “wayaku,” as the calligraphy states, means “harmony and dynamic progress”—and represents the relationship between Japan and ASEAN. To commemorate the 40th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, Mr. Takeda is introducing Japanese calligraphy to some ASEAN countries.
