At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, H.E. Alberto van Klaveren, Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, paid a working visit to Chile from 3 to 6 September 2024. This visit coincided with the fifth anniversary of Chile’s status as an ASEAN Development Partner, conferred during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on 22 June 2019, at the sidelines of the 34 ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. The visit marked a new milestone in the ASEAN-Chile relationship, as it was the first time that a Secretary-General of ASEAN visited a Latin American country.
Throughout the series of activities during the visit, ASEAN and Chile reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the ASEAN-Chile Development Partnership, and explored new and potential areas of cooperation. Both sides successfully promoted the expansion of their relationship, through engaging a wider range of stakeholders, including government officials, the business community, academia, think tanks, civil society, and agreed to continue enhancing their economic and political cooperation, as well as cultural ties.
