VIENTIANE, 24 July 2018 – Lao PDR government officials took part in a project proposal development training aimed at building capacity and generating more projects from Laotian proponents, on 23-24 July 2018 in Vientiane.
The ASEAN Project Proposal Development training for the government officials of the line agencies of Lao PDR was a joint effort of the ASEAN Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Mission of Lao PDR to ASEAN, and the ASEAN Secretariat.
Sitsangkhom Sisaketh, Deputy Director-General of ASEAN Department, stressed in his opening remarks the importance of ASEAN cooperation projects and how it could assist ASEAN Member States to achieve the ASEAN 2025 goals and also to reduce development gaps especially for Lao PDR.
The Deputy Director-General highlighted that the training would provide participants with knowledge in proposal development. He encouraged participants to actively participate and get as much as information needed from the resource persons to build capacity of Lao PDR and generate more projects from Laotian proponents in the future.
Eighty officials representing various ministries and government agencies in Lao PDR participated in the 2-day training which consisted of lectures/presentations, discussion, and group exercises. ASEAN Secretariat officers and representatives of the Lao PDR Mission to ASEAN delivered the training on such topics as regional project proposal development, national coordination, projects appraisal and approval, financial reporting and submission of completion reports.
Participants also learned about different modalities of ASEAN cooperation projects and programmes as well as the mechanism of proposal submission. Officials who have proposal or concept note ready were given the opportunity to consult the representatives from the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Project Management Team at a clinic held immediately after the training.
