NAY PYI TAW, 12 December 2024 – The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture (MORAC) of Myanmar in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to ASEAN, hosted the ASEAN Project Development Training for Myanmar Government Officials under the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Pillar from 10-12 December in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The training was the second training for Myanmar conducted as part of the implementation of the 4th ASEAN Development Fund (ADF) Work Plan.
Daw Nu Mra Zan, Deputy Minister of MORAC Myanmar, welcomed all participants from various government agencies and extended appreciation to ASEC for organising and to the participants for partaking in the three-day program. She stressed the importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared challenges and opportunities among ASEAN Member States as ASEAN moves towards the ASEAN Vision 2045. She highlighted the opportunities presented by the training, among others, equipping Myanmar’s project managers and policymakers with the skills to contribute effectively to the ASEAN Community building. She reiterated the significance of results-based project management for accountability and sustainability of regional cooperation projects that would deliver meaningful results towards a resilient, innovative and people-centered ASEAN.
A total of 43 Myanmar ASEAN focal points from 10 line ministries and agencies under the ASCC Pillar participated in the three-day training. Through presentations, exercises, group works, and panel discussions, participants were trained by the technical experts from ASEC on developing regional project proposals and managing ASEAN cooperation projects using a results-based management approach.
At the end of the training, participants developed and presented five regional project proposal drafts on: (1) Innovative Technologies in Disaster Risk Management and Recovery Workshop; (2) Creating Job Opportunities for Rural Women in ASEAN region; (3) Non-Traditional Security Issues: Illegal Migration in ASEAN countries Member States; (4) Public Service Motivation to Support Work-Life Balance in Public Sector; and (5) Enhanced Disaster Prevention and Climate Resilience in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) countries.
Participants engaged in discussed coordination arrangements for ASEAN cooperation project with MORAC Myanmar, Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to ASEAN and ASEC. Participants were encouraged to refine the project proposals for subsequent submission to ASEC for funding opportunities under ASEAN and ASEAN-External Partners development cooperation.
Aung Myint, Director General of the Department of Historical Research and National Library of MORAC, Myanmar, closed the training and encouraged the participants to put the knowledge and skills gained into practice, contributing to regional integration, sustainable development and shared prosperity. He expressed gratitude to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to ASEAN and the ASEC and commended the participants’ active involvement, hard work and enthusiasm during the workshop. He was confident that the participants will apply the acquired skills into designing impactful projects in their respective fields. Lastly, he looked forward to continued collaboration and stronger ties within ASEAN.
A certificate awarding ceremony by MORAC Myanmar marked the completion of the course, bestowing the participants with an acknowledgment of their accomplishments and a sense of enlightenment.
