“As the clock ticks towards the ASEAN Community 2015, much of our efforts for the period under review has been focused on implementing regional commitments across all three pillars of the ASEAN Community,” said H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN. “In the political-security pillar, ASEAN bears witness to the rising profile and international recognition of the 1976 Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) as a key code of conduct governing inter-State relations in the region with more than 20 non-ASEAN countries across continents becoming High Contracting Parties as of now. In the economic pillar, ASEAN has implemented nearly 80% of the measures in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint, with significant progress across sectors. There has also been significant progress on the sociocultural Community pillar, which is essential for building a people-centred ASEAN.”

Highlights of the achievements, development of programmes implementation, and activities of three ASEAN Pillars namely: The ASEAN Political & Security Community (APSC), the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, during the period between 2012-2013 is covered in The ASEAN Annual Report 2012-2013.
