JAKARTA, 8 October 2024 — The ASEAN Secretariat is proud to announce the release of The ASEAN magazine’s special two-part series commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. As 8 October also marks ASEAN Disaster Management Day, we present this edition, which reflects on the profound impact of the 2004 disaster that reshaped regional disaster management and highlights ASEAN’s ongoing efforts to build a more resilient future.
Part One: Building on Lessons Learned
The first instalment revisits the devastating tsunami that claimed thousands of lives while spotlighting the critical advancements in disaster preparedness that have since taken place.
