ASEANTOM is a subsidiary body under the ASEAN SOM that serves as a framework for cooperation among nuclear regulatory bodies or relevant authorities within ASEAN in order to enhance regional nuclear safety, security, and safeguards. ASEANTOM meets annually and regularly engages external partners and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through a wide range of international cooperation activities and regional projects. Many of these initiatives focus on training and capacity building for ASEAN Member States in the area of nuclear safety, security, and safeguards as well as nuclear science and technology applications.
