ASEAN is increasingly recognized all over the world as a successful regional organization with its strategic geo-political location. This message was conveyed by H.E. Mr. Grzegorz Krzystof Wiśniewski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic Poland to Indonesia, who presented his Letter of Credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, at the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday.

Dr. Surin said that all ASEAN Member States have embarked on a long journey and experienced economic progress. Ambassador Wiśniewski expressed his gratitude to ASEAN and its Member States for accepting him as the first Ambassador of Poland to ASEAN. The two leaders exchanged views on current developments, the region and beyond, as well as ASEAN and EU cooperation.

Ambassador Wiśniewski also took the opportunity to brief Dr. Surin on the history of Poland. For more than 300 years, Polish Kings were elected by the noble society, which is regarded as the beginning of the period of “Nobles’ Democracy”.

Ambassador Wiśniewski, who is concurrently the Ambassador of Poland to Indonesia, expressed readiness to working closely with ASEAN in enhancing relations with Poland and the EU. Currently, there are 24 Ambassadors to ASEAN from the EU Member States, including Poland and the EU.
