Twenty-five members of a circle called the Presidential Friends of Indonesia today visited the ASEAN Secretariat to learn more about ASEAN’s role in the regional and international architecture.

They included academia, journalists, and representatives from associations, chamber of commerce, private sector and think tanks from ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Dialogue Partners, and Ireland. The delegation was welcomed by Mr Bagas Hapsoro, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community & Corporate Affairs.

During the briefing, they engaged in interactive dialogue sessions with Prof Dr Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Deputy Secretary to the Indonesian Vice President for Political Affairs; Mr Djauhari Oratmangun, Director-General of ASEAN-Indonesia; and Ms Mely Anthony, Director of External Relations, ASEAN Secretariat.

The Presidential Friends of Indonesia is an annual programme conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, in association with Special Staff of President for International Affairs to increase the understanding and interest on Indonesia as well as provide them with recent updates on Indonesian development in politics, economics and socio-cultural through seminars, discussion, visits, and courtesy calls within Indonesia.

This year, the programme runs from 14-21 August in the capital Jakarta and Bali along Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship theme of “ASEAN Community in a Global Community of Nations”.
