JAKARTA, 7 February 2020 - Young professionals from the Ministries of Trade, Ministries of Commerce, National Standards Bodies, and National Accreditation Bodies in ASEAN participated in the Kick-Off Workshop on Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development (QuISP) held in Jakarta on February 3-6.
The Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN Economic Community Dr. Aladdin D. Rillo opened the four-day workshop and spoke about the current work, targets and challenges faced by the ASEAN Economic Community.
The workshop is part of the QuISP blended learning course consisting of two workshops (kick-off and final) and a tutor-guided five-month e-learning phase. It introduced participants to quality infrastructure and its elements (standardization, metrology, accreditation, conformity assessment and market surveillance) and provided participants with a better understanding of their relevance for trade and sustainable development.
This unique training concept aims to raise the awareness of young professionals working in fields related to trade negotiations and agreements. Its main objective is to support the exchange of information and experience for continuous advancement of quality infrastructures in ASEAN Member States.
A field trip to relevant quality infrastructure institutions in Jakarta was also included as part of the workshop.
QuISP is held with the support of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany (the National Metrology Institute of Germany). Under the “Strengthening Quality Infrastructure in ASEAN” project, PTB supports the ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality and its related bodies in their endeavour to establish an integrated single market and production base with a free flow of goods through the elimination of technical barriers to trade.
