SIEM REAP, 4 April 2018 – Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen in Siem Reap today.

SG Dato Lim congratulated Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen for the remarkable progress that Cambodia has made in terms of socio-economic development, being one of the fastest growing ASEAN Member States with improved quality of people’s life.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen stressed the importance of ASEAN unity in view of global and regional challenges, and highlighted that ASEAN integration is the top priority of Cambodia. The Prime Minister welcomed the Secretary-General’s priorities in strengthening the capacity of the ASEAN Secretariat to better ASEAN’s Community building efforts, including in narrowing the development gaps among ASEAN Member States.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister attached to the Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia; Sry Thamrong, Minister attached to the Prime Minister; Sok Siphana, Advisor to the Royal Government of Cambodia; and Duong Dara, Under-Secretary of State, Council of Ministers.

Prior to this, SG Dato Lim met with Minister of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia Dr. Ith Samheng on the sidelines of the 2nd ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Awards Ceremony on 3 April. During the meeting, both SG Dato Lim and the Minister exchanged views on labour-related ASEAN cooperation including occupational safety and health, labour mobility, skills recognition, technical and vocational training and rights of migrant workers.

The call on Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen is part of the Secretary-General’s courtesy calls on ASEAN Heads of States and Government since his assumption of office in January 2018. In March, SG Dato Lim also paid a courtesy call on President of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
