The outgoing Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN, H.E. Heng Sarith, today paid a farewell call on the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat. Dr. Kao commended Ambassador Heng Sarith for his steadfast commitment and valuable contributions to ASEAN’s Community-building efforts, particularly for his leadership as Country Coordinator for ASEAN–United States (U.S.) Dialogue Relations. Under Cambodia’s Coordinatorship, the partnership was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), a key milestone in strengthening ASEAN–U.S. relations. Dr. Kao expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Ambassador Heng Sarith’s professionalism and constructive engagement in advancing regional cooperation. He acknowledged the Ambassador’s strong support for the ongoing efforts to strengthen the ASEAN Secretariat, including initiatives aimed at enhancing its institutional effectiveness and ensuring it is fit-for-purpose for ASEAN’s long-term vision. Dr. Kao also extended his warm wishes to Ambassador Heng Sarith for continued success in his future endeavours and reaffirmed ASEAN’s full support for his successor and the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN.

ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat
