Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn met with Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to ASEAN Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang at the ASEAN Secretariat today. They discussed the preparation for SG Dr Kao’s working visit to Viet Nam, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Viet Nam Phạm Minh Chính, to participate in the ASEAN Future Forum to be held in April. In addition, since Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang will soon finish his posting with ASEAN, SG Dr Kao expressed his appreciation for Viet Nam’s continued support to the work of the ASEAN Secretariat, as well as for its leadership as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Japan Dialogue Relations from 2018-2021 and for ASEAN-Republic of Korea Dialogue Relations from 2021-2024.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat
