Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn today delivered pre-recorded remarks at the Regional Workshop on Building Climate-Smart ASEAN: Assessing Climate Vulnerability, Planning Adaptation Strategies, and Securing Innovative Financing, which is being convened from 4 to 6 September 2024 in Lao PDR. In his remarks, Dr. Kao emphasised that Southeast Asia is one of the world’s most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change, and highlighted that the journey towards adopting climate-smart practices and achieving sustainable development is a continuous effort that demands collective diligence, unwavering commitment, and innovative approaches. He underscored the importance of ASEAN’s cooperation in charting a course towards a more resilient, adaptive, and sustainable ASEAN Community, guided by a shared vision of prosperity and environmental stewardship.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
