Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn delivered remarks virtually at the opening session of the inaugural Global Symposium entitled ‘Global Health Security and Diplomacy in the 21st Century’. Dr Kao stressed the critical importance in safeguarding ASEAN’s people from threats on public health and other possible health risks. He also highlighted key initiatives to strengthen and institutionalise health security in cooperation with ASEAN’s formal partners, including US through their Health and Human Services and allied agencies.
Hosted by the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Global AIDS Coordinator and Senior Bureau Official for Global Health Security and Diplomacy Ambassador Dr John Nkengasong, the symposium aim to address critical issues as well as foster collaboration, coordination and cooperation in global health to advancing health security.
