Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, today delivered Special Remarks at the UK–ASEAN AI Innovation Summit 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dr. Kao highlighted ASEAN’s efforts in responsible AI governance, including the ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics and the upcoming ASEAN AI Safety Network Declaration. With ASEAN’s digital economy projected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030—and potentially double to USD 2 trillion with the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA)—Dr. Kao stressed the importance of embedding AI into ASEAN–UK cooperation. He also underscored the role of the ASEAN–UK Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation (AUKDSTI) in delivering impactful collaborations such as AI for sustainable development and smart health technologies.
