Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn delivered keynote remarks at the opening ceremony of the Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC) & ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) 2023 today in Jakarta, Indonesia. Dr Kao emphasised the importance of towns and cities as building blocks towards the vision of One Community for the ASEAN region and the role that local government officials play as leaders towards the ASEAN Community building process.

MGMAC & AMF serves as a platform to share experiences and deliberate on joint priorities, ideas, and collective actions for the sustainable development of ASEAN cities. This year’s discussion was guided by the theme of Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.”
