JAKARTA, 5 December 2024 – Ambassador Fekadu Beyene Aleka today presented his Letter of Credence as the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to ASEAN to Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Fekadu Beyene Aleka on his assumption of office and looked forward to working closely with him and the Embassy of Ethiopia in Jakarta to strengthen ASEAN-Ethiopia relations. He encouraged Ethiopia to explore opportunities for possible cooperation with ASEAN in areas of mutual interest, including in trade and investment, as well as people-to-people exchanges.
Secretary-General Dr. Kao also encouraged Ethiopia to consider acceding to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), emphasising that accession to the TAC reflects the commitment of ASEAN’s partners from across the globe to peaceful co-existence and friendly cooperation as well as in promoting peace, security and stability in the region.
Ambassador Fekadu Beyene Aleka underlined Ethiopia’s interest in promoting stronger relations between ASEAN and Ethiopia. He further expressed his readiness to work on strengthening existing relations, and to explore possible areas of cooperation with ASEAN and the ASEAN Member States.
Ethiopia has accredited its Ambassador to ASEAN since 2017. Ambassador Fekadu Beyene Aleka is the third Ambassador of Ethiopia to ASEAN, succeeding his predecessor, who completed his tenure in October 2021.
