JAKARTA, 18 November 2025 – Ambassador Veikko Kala presented his Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat today, marking the assumption of his post as the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to ASEAN, based in Singapore.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Kala on his new role and reaffirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s commitment to working closely with him and the Estonian Embassy in Singapore to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and Estonia. He encouraged Estonia to explore opportunities for cooperation with ASEAN in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, tourism and business-to-business linkages.

Ambassador Kala acknowledged ASEAN’s role as a prime example of regional integration and multilateral cooperation, while expressing Estonia’s interest in strengthening engagement with ASEAN. He also underscored the importance of strengthening multilateralism through the ASEAN-EU Dialogue Partnership amidst the current geopolitical situation.

Both sides looked forward to commemorating the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN-EU Dialogue Partnership in 2027 through initiatives that will enhance its visibility and further elevate cooperation to greater heights.

Estonia appointed its first Ambassador to ASEAN in 2017. Ambassador Kala is the fourth Ambassador to hold the position, succeeding Ambassador Priit Turk, who concluded his tenure in July 2025.
