Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, today gave an interview to the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) as part of the commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the “ASEAN Declaration on One ASEAN One Response: ASEAN Responding to Disasters as One in the Region and Outside the Region.” The Declaration was adopted by the ASEAN Leaders at the 28th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 6 September 2016. During the interview, Dr. Kao reflected on ASEAN’s achievements over the past decade in translating regional solidarity into collective action through stronger disaster management institutions, enhanced operational coordination, and closer collaboration among ASEAN Member States and external partners. Looking ahead, Dr. Kao shared his vision for advancing One ASEAN One Response under the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, highlighting the importance of innovation, anticipatory action, whole-of-society partnerships, sustainable financing, and strengthened regional leadership in building a more resilient, inclusive, and people-centred ASEAN.
