At the joint invitation of the Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, H.E. Oh Young Hun and the President of Jeju Peace Institute, H.E. Kang Young Hoon, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, will lead the ASEAN Secretariat delegation for a Working Visit to the Republic of Korea on 25 – 31 May 2024. During the course of the visit, Dr. Kao is scheduled to meet with a number of key important figures from the government, business community, academia, as well as engage with the ASEAN Committee in Seoul to discuss ways to further enrich and strengthen the ASEAN-ROK partnership and cooperation, particularly as both sides are working toward the establishment of ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in conjunction with the 35th Anniversary of the ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations this year. Dr. Kao will participate in the 19th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, where he will deliver keynote remarks at the ‘ASEAN+α’ Roundtable Discussion under the theme of “Cooperation for a future of shared prosperity” and at the Opening Ceremony of the Forum. Dr. Kao will also attend the Inauguration Ceremony for the 6th Secretary-General of the ASEAN Korea Centre in Seoul. To further promote ASEAN diplomacy, Dr. Kao will also take the opportunity to visit Sogang University and convey ASEAN narratives to a group of students to allow them to understand more about ASEAN.

ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat
