At the invitation of Republic of Korea’s (ROK) Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin, Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn will conduct an inaugural working visit to the ROK on 15-17 June. For the visit, Dr Kao will pay courtesy calls on ROK Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo and on Foreign Minister Park Jin, deliver a special lecture at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, and meet with the ASEAN Committee in Seoul, among others. Dr Kao is also expected to receive an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science from the Busan University of Foreign Studies. The working visit is expected to further strengthen ASEAN-ROK relations. The two parties will celebrate 35 years of dialogue relations in 2024.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat
