At the joint invitation of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, will participate and deliver remarks at the 1st Plenary Session of the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), hosted by the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on 24 November 2024. The event is expected to bring together parliamentarians, government leaders, and civil society to discuss global issues of common concerns pertaining to peace, tolerance, co-existence and resource security. On the margins of the plenary session, Dr. Kao is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. ASEAN organs always strive to achieve ASEAN’s goals and objectives, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat shall be functioned as coordinating Secretariat to help facilitate effective decision-making withing and amongst ASEAN bodies. In addition, each Member State shall appoint a Permanent Representative to liaise with Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat
