At the invitation of H.E. Malaithong Kommasith, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR and Chair of the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting 2024, Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr Kao Kim Hourn, will lead the ASEAN Secretariat delegation to participate in the 56th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (56th AEM Meeting) and Related Meetings in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 15-22 September 2024.
Dr. Kao will also attend the 56th AEM- 38th ASEAN Free Trade Area Council Meeting, the 56th AEM- 27th ASEAN Investment Area Council Meeting, AEM Consultations with External Partners, and AEM Consultations with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and other business councils. Additionally, Dr. Kao will also partake in the Opening Ceremonies of the High-Level Forum on ASEAN Supply Chain Connectivity, Meeting with Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals 2024 and ASEAN Mayors Forum, and ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) Regional Business Roundtable, respectively, to be held on the sidelines of the series of meetings.
The series of Ministerial meetings represent a good opportunity for Ministers to take stock of the regional economic initiatives in the region and discuss new ways to expand economic cooperation that would contribute to ASEAN’s regional economic integration journey. Ministers will also review the progress of the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025 and exchange views on the AEC Post-2025 Vision, among others.
Dr. Kao is also expected to meet the participating Ministers either by way of bilateral or pull-aside meetings on the sidelines.
