At the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the current Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, will participate in the SCO Summit 2025, which will take place in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, on 31 August – 1 September 2025. Participating in the SCO Summit for the first time in his capacity as the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao will take the opportunity to engage in bilateral meetings with high-level officials from China and other external partners of ASEAN, as well as to conduct interviews with the media, on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
