JAKARTA, 9 December 2024 – ASEAN invites artists from Lao PDR to apply for a transformative month-long residency in Osaka, Japan coinciding with ASEAN’s participation in the World Expo 2025.
Under this programme, the selected Lao artist will produce an artwork that embodies ASEAN identity, to be presented to the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta upon completion. The artist will also immerse in diverse cultural experiences by participating in relevant art events as assigned. The artist may also be required to lead tours and conduct presentations to visitors of the ASEAN Pavilion at the Expo.
Launched in 2018, the ASEAN Artist Residency Programme (AARP) expresses ASEAN’s commitment to supporting young and emerging artists in Southeast Asia in furthering their practice and exposure. The programme has previously engaged artists from Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam, and this edition seeks to enhance ASEAN awareness on the global stage through holding the residency in this Expo.
Airfare and stipends for the selected artist from Lao PDR will be sponsored by the Thai Beverage Corporation Limited. Other form of support includes accommodation by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
Interested individuals must submit a curriculum vitae, statement of intent, and a digital portfolio. Application is open till Friday, 31 January 2025 and is free of charge. More information is available here.
