JAKARTA, 6 October 2017 — Spain expressed its keen interest in reinforcing its relations with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States. José María Matres Manso, Ambassador of Spain to ASEAN, conveyed this message as he presented his Letter of Credence to Secretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat today.
In congratulating Ambassador Manso on his assumption of duty as the Ambassador of Spain to ASEAN, Secretary-General Minh welcomed Spain’s interest in exploring cooperation with ASEAN in support of ASEAN Community building efforts and to contribute towards the promotion of ASEAN-EU relations.
Ambassador Manso said that his country attaches high importance to its relations with ASEAN and regards ASEAN as an admirable regional organisation in terms of its achievements. He said Spain acknowledges the positive contribution of ASEAN to the development of the region. Further, he stated that Spain would seek to intensify its engagement with Asia, particularly Southeast Asia through heathy diplomatic relations.
In the spirit of strengthening cooperation with ASEAN, Ambassador Manso also expressed Spain’s readiness to work together with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States on international and regional matters of common interest.
Secretary-General Minh and Ambassador Manso discussed the shared goals that ASEAN and the EU are working on, including the implementation of the ASEAN-EU Plan of Action (2018-2022). They also exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
