H.E. Mr. Zurab Aleksidze presented his Letter of Credence yesterday as Ambassador of the Republic of Georgia to ASEAN to H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN.

Secretary-General Minh congratulated Ambassador Aleksidze and welcomed the accreditation. He expressed appreciation for the desire of the Government of the Republic of Georgia to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States. He reassured Ambassador Aleksidze that he and the ASEAN Secretariat are ready to contribute further to promoting the relationship.

Ambassador Aleksidze stated that the Government of Georgia is interested in pursuing greater cooperation with ASEAN, and regards ASEAN as a growing important regional grouping which plays increasingly important role in the regional and international arena. He further said that his accreditation to ASEAN started a new page in the relationship.

Secretary-General Minh and Ambassador Aleksidze discussed potential areas and concrete cooperative activities which are of Georgia’s expertise and in mutual interest, including tourism, education, promoting business-to-business and people-to-people contact.

Furthermore, they exchanged views on the recent developments in ASEAN, ASEAN Community building process and a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
