JAKARTA, 25 November 2013 – H.E. Abd Al Rahim Al Siddig Mohammed Omer, presented his Letter of Credence as the first Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to ASEAN to H.E. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN.
Secretary-General Minh congratulated Ambassador Abd Al Rahim Al Siddig and welcomed the accreditation which he said reflects the desire of the Government of Sudan to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation with ASEAN and ASEAN Member States.
Ambassador Abd Al Rahim Al Siddig stated that the Government of Sudan regards ASEAN as an important regional grouping which plays an increasingly significant role in the regional and international arena. He further said that the Republic of Sudan sees ASEAN’s potentials and is interested in pursuing greater cooperation particularly in the fields that ASEAN and ASEAN Member States have an expertise and interest on as well as investment potentials such as agriculture, energy, and minerals, among others. He briefed Secretary-General Minh on the recent developments in Sudan as well as on the potentials of Sudan for ASEAN business investment.
Secretary-General Minh welcomed the progress made in the peace building process in Sudan and stated that ASEAN Secretariat stands ready and looks forward to promoting the relationship and to initiating specific practical cooperation in the areas of mutual interest and benefits.
