BANGKOK, 26–28 August 2025 – The ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Youth Summit 2025 was held under the theme “Sustainability on Every Plate” to address the pressing issue of food waste management in the tourism sector. The three-day event brought together a total of 45 youth delegates from ASEAN Plus Three countries, featuring lectures by sustainability champions, hands-on learning through onsite visits, and food distribution activities. Delegates gained valuable experience in representing their nations, sharing perspectives, and proposing forward-looking solutions to enhance sustainability and move toward the vision of “Zero Food Waste.”

Thailand has prioritised sustainable tourism and identified food waste as a key issue to be tackled not only nationally but also at the regional level. Each year, food waste accounts for 39 percent of municipal solid waste—equivalent to 9.68 million tons. These statistics highlight the urgent need for effective food waste management.

The Summit therefore aimed to raise knowledge and awareness of the environmental and social impacts of food waste in tourism, while also sharing best practices toward achieving zero food waste. In addition, the event sought to develop leadership and communication skills among ASEAN Plus Three youth and to strengthen networks between young leaders and sustainability champions across the region.
